Why It's Good
When the athlete is ready, the teacher appears. And the committed athlete can expect to see improved flexibility, balance, strength, and range of motion. In addition, this training leads to greater focus and fewer injuries, both of which translate into better performance and longer careers.
Yoga has been around for thousands of years. In recent years science has proven the broad-ranging beneficial effects of yoga. The most recent and significant study was released in October of 2005 by the American Council on Exercise (A.C.E.).
While studies are important, they merely validate what we already know from the test of time. Yoga works when you work it. And while there are tremendous benefits, none of this is possible without the willingness of the student. Players that are not coachable often disrupt team chemistry and bounce from one team to the next. Yoga is no different. The benefits are there and we can deliver, but the client must have a willingness, an open mind, and a desire to improve.
